DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT MY STORY. I am a resident of Minneapolis who hasn’t experienced homelessness. This project is not a permanent solution to address the wider housing crisis in Minneapolis and other cities, nor is it an alternative to making large scale changes in order to make housing more available and affordable for all.

I have witnessed an increase in encampments for unhoused people in Minneapolis. This project is merely an attempt to address an immediate need seen from an outside perspective to help people living in encampments. If this were to become a real project it would require community buy-in and input in order to be successful.

FOLLY
“Folly, (from French folie, “foolishness”), also called EYECATCHER, in architecture, a costly, generally nonfunctional building that was erected to enhance a natural landscape.”

This project proposes a “folly” in that it will be an eyecatching, prefabricated, functional building that is erected to enhance the lives of unhoused people in Minneapolis.

When the housing crisis is solved, the building or buildings can either be dismantled and downcycled, or be relocated to a park or near a housing development to become a true folly.
