OBJECT
I bought my guitar with my own cash when I was 16. I saved up for months. The guitar is a Fender Kurt Cobain Jag-Stang® in Sonic Blue, with an Alder body, Maple neck and Rosewood fretboard with a white perloid dot inlay, with a floating bridge and dynamic tailpiece with tilted single coil and humbucking pickups, both with an on off/in-phase/out-of-phase slider switch. This guitar can make so many different sounds, it’s ******* awesome.

COLLECTION
Making and listening to music has been an important part of my life since I was young. It’s a refuge in and of itself. It can change how you think and feel, it can console, it can pick you up, and it can help you process. Because of this, it’s always been a way for me to connect to other people.

This collection is composed of implements of music making: Musical Instruments, and Vinyl Records. The space is arranged in the round, with musical instruments at the center, and records lining the walls of the room. The speaker system is built into the cabinetry, and a turntable is set at each end of the room.

CONTEXT
The site is at the end of Lakewood Road, at the edge of Duluth on the shore of Lake Superior. I’m often awestruck by the beauty and power of Lake Superior. I was lucky enough to grow up there, and I spent most of my time in the lake, on the lake, or near the lake. It’s as much of a refuge to me as music, which is why this project focuses on it, and has direct access from the Sauna to the Lake, an important ritual for many Minnesotans.
